Abstract

Südafrika (SA) ist fast immer schon ein ausgebeuteter und umkämpfter Raum gewesen. Zunächst durch die Niederländer kolonisiert, dann durch die Briten, Ort zahlreicher Gebiets- und Stammeskriege, Heimat indischer Vertragsarbeiter und das Land, wo Milch und Honig fließen (Bandeira, Higson-Smith und Polatin, 2010, S. 92), für Geflüchtete und Asylsuchende vom gesamten afrikanischen Kontinent, kann seine Geschichte bis heute nur als turbulent bezeichnet werden. Als Land wurden Südafrika und seine Menschen tief gezeichnet von den Verwüstungen eines Systems und seiner Politik, die durch Rassendiskriminierung und -trennung geprägt waren und die im ultimativen Akt der Unterdrückung durch das System der Apartheid kulminierten, das vom Jahr 1948 bis in die frühen 1990er reichte (Aufhebung des Population Registration Act, 17. Juni 1991). Zwar hat das Land nunmehr siebenundzwanzig Jahre Demokratie hinter sich, und wird immer noch als Regenbogennation bezeichnet, doch leider gibt es sehr wenig Grund zum Feiern. Die Verheerungen der Apartheid (1948 bis 1994) klingen immer noch in jedem Aspekt des Lebens nach, insbesondere für die marginalisierten Gruppen und insbesondere im Bildungsbereich. Das Trauma der Apartheid-Ära hat nie dagewesene Turbulenzen mit sich gebracht und, wie die Ereignisse der vergangenen Jahre zeigen, sich selbst bis in die Strahlen der Regenbogennation fortgesetzt.
