Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

SKRIB exclusively accepts manuscripts that use critical approaches to scholarshipapproaches that foreground issues of power. Critical approaches might focus on colonialism, globalism, capitalism and neoliberalism, racism, ableism, as well as issues relating to patriarchy and gender inequality.

Language

Authors are required to submit manuscripts in English, but are encouraged to submit in their language of choice along with an English translation; both will be published.

Standardized American academic rhetorical conventions (i.e., purpose and thesis-driven argumentation) are not required. We encourage authors to draw on the rhetorical conventions they deem most suitable for their work.

Format

Please follow the most updated APA style guide, and:

  • Modify to reflect local spellings of English words. We ask that authors be consistent in their modifications.

  • Place images, graphs, and tables where they should appear in text.

  • Use footnotes not endnotes.

  • Use appropriate gender neutral pronouns when required (i.e., they, xe, etc).

Abstract

Include a 200-word abstract in either English, Spanish, or French. Abstracts will be published in English, Spanish, and French. Translation will be provided by the journal.

Research Papers

Research papers should be a maximum of 8,000 words excluding appendices. In cases of research involving human subjects, research ethics approval should be disclosed in the manuscript text. We are particularly interested in research that refrains from universalizing and that gives careful consideration to any cultural histories, practicalities, and ideologies at play. Authors are called upon to take a critical approach to their subject matter, paying close attention to power dynamics.

Critical Program Reviews

Critical program reviews should be a maximum of 3000 words excluding appendices. Critical program reviews should provide fully contextualized examinations of program design and/or outcomes with careful attention to matters of power dynamics. SKRIB is particularly interested in transnational multi-institutional collaborations.

Critical Responses

Critical responses should be a minimum of 1000 words. They should briefly summarize the central points of a published text (scholarly or popular book or article) and then critique it using a critical framework. Authors should maintain a professional tone.
